Trekking - Secret Staircases ~ Dibba, United Arab Emirates | 1 day
This trek takes us up two secret staircases built into the cliff faces of Wadi Khab Al Shamsi. We start with a 40 Minute 4X4 drive through the picturesque wadi. We walk across the wadi bed to the base of our first staircase and ascend to the village of Twaifat. We explore the terraced fields and old stone houses adorned with ancient petroglyphs before returning to the staircase for the descent to the wadi. We drive back down Khab Al Shamsi to find our second secret staircase. Once more we ascend the cliff face to reach Yehnadj Village. We are usually invited to have tea with the friendly goatherd who lives alone in the village before continuing our exploration of this spectacularly situated settlement. There are many elaborately decorated gravestones, stone ovens and ancient petroglyphs in this village. Eventually we descend the staircase for our return trip to Dibba.
